Bee Spiral is a computer scan of two dozen dead honey bees arranged in a spiral. The scanner was jolted slightly during the process in order to capture slight motion blur in the bees' wings, creating a windswept notion, as if their bodies are dropping to Earth. The position of the bees in a spiral alludes to their population dropping at unprecedented rates, nearly spiraling out of control. This shape is in stark contrast with the iconic orthohexagonal structure of wax cells produced in honeycombs, indicating they will eventually disappear entirely.
